Pom pom crafts are a lot of fun for both adults and kids to make. I enjoy coming up with characters for these fluffy balls of yarn and I really like this little red devil pom pom character which looks kind of cute. He has horns, a forked tail and his trident. This little fella likes to hang out on our bookshelf where he sits pretty nicely but you can turn him into a hanging decoration as well if you want to attach a loop of twine at the top of his head.  You can jazz him up even more by adding on other decorations and embellishments - how about adding lots of glitter to his horns, tail or trident spear. Most kids learn how to do this at school or in simple crafting activities.

This is a quick and easy craft to make a simple hanging decoration or garland using tissue paper. It's so quick and easy that kids can learn to make this too. They will need to know how to fold concertina or accordion style, how to cut with scissors and how to tie a double knot. Many age 7+ children will have some or all of the skills to create this easy Halloween tissue paper garland. We choose to make this using black and orange tissue paper for the Fall season.  Black and a nice pumpkin orange fit with our theme well but you may want to choose ghostly white, grays, purples, monster greens, blood reds or other colors that work with your own choice of decorations around the home.

Disney's version of Sleeping Beauty contains one of the most magnificent villains ever created and that is, of course, the complex character Maleficent. My daughter really enjoyed this movie as well and she was keen on having an easy pattern and design that she could make up by using her fused Perler beads, so I made a Maleficent Perler bead pattern which you can enjoy using too with this simple to follow photo tutorial. This small design makes a finished project which measures around 2.5 x 2 inches. That is a good size for a bag charm, a necklace pendent, a keychain, an embellishment for a handmade card or gift tag or a large, oversize bracelet charm.

There are lots of crafts to make itty bitty dangling spiders from a single yarn pom pom but this one is to make a larger, freestanding plush pet which is a little more realistic with a larger body to it, more like a furry tarantula, but still cute nonetheless. My young daughter loved this when I made it for her since she's interested in bugs and all those creepy crawlies that some of us as not quite as keen on. A child can put this together themselves using a white PVA based glue but bear in mind that takes a while to dry.  For speed, I used my hot glue gun. A good compromise is to let a child make the parts that they can enjoy, namely making the pom poms and wrapping and twisting the long spindly legs, while an adult assembles it together.

Spider webs and cobwebs make wonderfully creepy and fun decorations that you can use for Halloween. This ever so easy spiderweb paper craft uses the exact same paper folding and cutting technique which is often used when making those pretty paper snowflakes.
