A List of What you Need to Make These Chocolate Orange Cupcakes

1) Chocolate cupcakes ready to decorate > cupcake recipe on allrecipes

2) Some orange buttercream frosting > frosting recipe on myrecipes

3) Icing or frosting set (optional)

4) Chocolate shavings, curls or sprinkles

5) Fall or Halloween themed orange wrappers

You don't need the Terry's Chocolate Orange as suggested but that is a classic example of just how successfully chocolate and orange work together as a flavor pairing. An English delicacy not to be missed. Try putting a few slices on top of each cupcake for decoration.

How to Make Chocolate Orange Cupcakes for Halloween and Fall

Step 1: Purchase or make up a batch of chocolate cupcakes. Here's a recipe if you don't already have one you like to use >> Chocolate Cupcakes Recipe

Step 2: Let the cupcakes cool down completely on a wire rack before you attempt to add your orange buttercream topping. If you add the buttercream frosting when the cupcakes are still warm, it will start to melt and run off the cakes.

Step 3: While the cupcakes are cooling, make your orange buttercream frosting >> Orange Buttercream Recipe. If you want a strong orange color for the frosting, then you'll need to add in some orange food coloring.

Step 4: Pipe the orange buttercream onto your cupcakes. There is a video on icing swirls on cupcakes below.

Alternatively, spread a very generous amount of buttercream over the top with a blunt knife or spatula which is what I normally do.

Step 5: Using your fingertips, drop some chocolate shavings or chocolate sprinkles on to the orange buttercream icing.

You can buy packs of chocolate sprinkles but I prefer to grate my own chocolate bars to use as decoration on cakes.

Alternatively, try putting a few slices of Terry's Chocolate Orange on top of each cupcake for decoration. This has the wonderful taste of chocolate orange and will match your finished cupcakes to perfection.

Step 6: An orange cupcake wrapper will finish off your chocolate orange cupcakes to perfection. Mmmm, enjoy!
