How to Make Spider Pom Poms

Image
There are lots of crafts to make itty bitty dangling spiders from a single yarn pom pom but this one is to make a larger, freestanding plush pet which is a little more realistic with a larger body to it, more like a furry tarantula, but still cute nonetheless. My young daughter loved this when I made it for her since she's interested in bugs and all those creepy crawlies that some of us as not quite as keen on. A child can put this together themselves using a white PVA based glue but bear in mind that takes a while to dry.  For speed, I used my hot glue gun. A good compromise is to let a child make the parts that they can enjoy, namely making the pom poms and wrapping and twisting the long spindly legs, while an adult assembles it together.

Zombie Brain Jello Trifle

Image
English Trifle is a dessert dish that we love to eat. In case you don't know what this is, it normally comes either in one large glass dish for sharing or in separate glass dishes. There are many variations on these English desserts but Jello, Custard and Cream are the three main parts. Using the Jello brain made in our previous post (link in the ingredients) you can make this Zombie brain jello trifle.  Trifle has a layer of jello (Jelly UK) set right at the bottom and sometimes this has pieces of sponge cake in there although we prefer to leave that out. The middle section is really thick custard and the top is whipped cream.

Halloween Boo Banner Craft Tutorial

Image
This DIY BOO banner in card and paper is quick and easy to make up for your Halloween decorations because it only has 3 pennant flag sections, one for each of the letters used. I made this banner in grays and blacks with just a hint of pumpkin orange and white for the letters to make them really pop out as you can see from the photo. If you don't have time to stretch to making a large garland, banner or section of bunting, this smaller design is ideal for you to make. The triangular flag sections come from a free printable template which is one that I use for a number of crafts and you can print out large lettering from a computer, draw them out yourself, use a stencil or even buy some extra large chipboard letters.

Jello Brain Mold Recipe for Halloween

Image
Jello (known as Jelly in the UK) is quick and easy to rustle up for parties, dinners and events and many kids and adults like to eat it. There are lots of fun shaped molds that you can buy for occasions such as Halloween. One of my favorite molds is this brain shaped one which I've used a number of times and in different color combinations. Learn this fun Jello brain mold recipe to use for your Halloween entertaining and parties. Solid colors look fine but by adding evaporated milk into the mix, you can turn your plain translucent Jello into something that looks more like real flesh. I managed to get this rather two-tone effect with mine which looked pretty cool.

Spiderweb Paper Craft for Young Kids

Image
Spider webs and cobwebs make wonderfully creepy and fun decorations that you can use for Halloween. This ever so easy spiderweb paper craft uses the exact same paper folding and cutting technique which is often used when making those pretty paper snowflakes. Laminating the design makes it perfect for displaying around your home and in your windows this October. We finished our designs off by adding on a plastic toy spider and a fly. It's a creepy craft that is perfect for making with large groups of kids since all you really need is paper and scissors. You can stick the webs onto card or a nice contrasting colored paper. Come and see how it's done.

Make Scary Halloween Cupcakes with Toppers

Image
Making really awesome looking cupcakes for specific occasions and themes such as Halloween can be quite a frightful challenge for those of us who are not what you'd call natural bakers. I'll admit that when I'm really pressed for time I will happily  cheat  and go out and buy some ready or pre-made cupcakes which are already frosted. That's most of the hard work taken care of! Then I'll just add on a few little decorations to make them into more of my own creation.  And also, I'm sure many people will agree, it can be pretty time consuming to just whip up a nice batch of cakes and then spend an age decorating them. That's when I'll use clever little toppers, cupcake picks and also edible sprinkles and decorations like candy.
