How to Sew a Hood onto a Cape

Image
So you've rustled up a quick hood for a costume (tutorial provided in this post if needs be) and now you may be wondering how on earth you sew it to a cape to make a hooded cloak. This photo tutorial gives you a good guide on how to attach a hood onto a cape or cloak which has no fancy extras such as lining. You'll see how I did it with photos provided. Not everyone wants to go to the time, bother and extra fabric expense to line a costume or dress up cloak when it may only be worn a few times for Halloween. I certainly didn't. Here's how it is done.

Easy How to Make a Tulle Wreath for Halloween

Image
Tulle wreaths are easy for most people to have a go at making and they can be made in a matter of hours too. See how easy it is to make a tulle wreath for Halloween that you can display. This fabric is a stiffer netting which makes it ideal since it will stand vertically and not just flop down as most fabrics would. It's ideal to use this netting for any decorations that you will use certainly indoors.  Tulle can be used outdoors on a fine day but remember to bring it inside overnight as damp will not benefit it at all. You are better off using a unique and much stiffer material called Deco Mesh for items that you want to place outdoors and that's because it's more weatherproof.

Red Devil Pom Poms for Halloween

Image
Pom pom crafts are a lot of fun for both adults and kids to make. I enjoy coming up with characters for these fluffy balls of yarn and I really like this little red devil pom pom character which looks kind of cute. He has horns, a forked tail and his trident. This little fella likes to hang out on our bookshelf where he sits pretty nicely but you can turn him into a hanging decoration as well if you want to attach a loop of twine at the top of his head.  You can jazz him up even more by adding on other decorations and embellishments - how about adding lots of glitter to his horns, tail or trident spear. Let's see how he's made.

How to Make a Maleficent Horn Headband

Image
We already made a simple elasticated mask for this character which is ideal as a last minute Halloween craft because it's so quick and easy. This tutorial is to make a Maleficent horned headband which takes a little longer to make but looks better. This looks especially good with long dark hair, because it is easy to slip on and off and the headband looks almost invisible. This means the curved horns stand out even more. See how to make this costume headband hair accessory with this step by step photo tutorial and get the free template to print off too.

Free Maleficent Horn Template to Print

Image
My little girl wanted to dress up as the evil fairy witch, Maleficent, from Disney's latest Sleeping Beauty movie. I wasn't going to spend a small fortune buying a headpiece when it's something that can be made pretty easily. I drew up an outline for a pair of curved horns and am sharing them in a free printable Maleficent horn template for other parents out there to save and print off as well. You can even print these off just a little larger and use it to make an adult costume accessory as well. As well as the free printable you get on this page, I've also written a couple of tutorials on using this design to make up some easy Halloween costume accessories. Grab your printable and get the tutorials and how to info as well while you're here.

How to Make a Pom Pom Wand Tutorial

Image
No longer seen as an old fashioned craft, pom poms are very much back in vogue and are perfect for so many crafts and decorations. Pom poms are now also made from fabric and tulle netting which is pretty modern and cutting edge. Wands that you want to make for kid's dressing up and for Halloween costume accessories look especially good topped off with tulle netting or satin fabric pom poms. Tulle is fun but satin fabric versions have a gorgeous silky sheen and a really raggedy shabby chic style which works brilliantly for a witch wand.  Today I'm making one in purple and black witch themed colors. You can change the styling up to make different versions for fairies, princesses, wizards and many other magical beings. It's quick, fun and easy which is just the kind of craft I like best of all!

Eyeball and Skull Paper Fans for Halloween

Image
A while back, I did a craft showing you how to make some round paper fan decorations which you can hang from a ceiling or on the wall. Today we're taking that concept a bit further and focusing on a much more grown-up version of that decoration. Enjoy these skull and eyeball paper fan designs which make great hanging and wall decorations for Halloween. There's also a spider and web one too, not shown in the photo, which you can make with the free printable at the end of this post. These Halloween paper fans are enhanced by the free design motifs that you can print off and use in the center of each decoration. Choose from a spiderweb, some eerie eyeballs to watch your guests everywhere they go and a menacing skull.

How to Make Paper Fans for Decorations

Image
Making round paper fans is an easy craft that both kids and adults can do to make hanging decorations from small sizes up to large depending on the sheet sizes you use for construction. This easy DIY paper fan craft can be used for Fall and Halloween as decor to hang on doors, mantels, walls and even from the ceiling. I like to use them as larger statement pieces. They look complicated to make when in fact these are easy peasy providing you know how to make accordion or concertina folds.  If you don't know how to make this zig zag style of valleys and mountains in sheets of paper, you'll find a gazillion tutorials on YouTube if you look for how to accordion or concertina fold. Most kids learn how to do this at school or in simple crafting activities.

How to Decorate Spider Cupcakes for Halloween

Image
Last Halloween, I needed to come up with some sweet treats for an impromptu little party that we had. I'm not much of a baker and I'm really impatient with cooking too so whatever ideas I came up with had to be quick and easy to create. The spider theme seemed like a good choice to go with for Halloween since pretty much everyone associates these with the spook-time season. So I came up with an idea that involved just a little amount of work and looked fun on the day. Since I was in a bit of a hurry, I just made up some plain little vanilla sponge cakes, popped them into bright orange cases and added my chocolate web designs on top.
